I have the honour to inform you that the late lir. Solomon, Water Work's Overseer in the Public Works Department, who

died on the 9th. October, 1910, left four children Lizzie aged 18, Sarah aged 16, Philip aged 13 and Bessie aged four. Until recently all four were living together at No. 4, Percival Street, lst. floor,

in a single room. But as Lizzie and Sarah have become prostitutes.

it is most undesirable that the younger children should continue

to inhabit their room; and I have arranged through the kind offices

of the Ladies Benevolent Society that Bessie Solomon should be kept

at the Italian Convent where the Society will bear the cost of her

maintenance and education.

The Society has also ascertained that the

Director of St. Joseph's College would be willing to take Philip

Solomon at the reduced rate of $15 per mensem on the understanding

that the College will not have to provide the boy's clothing. Owing to the heavy periodical and non-recurrent demands on the funds of the Benevolent Society, that Society will not be able to help in

this matter and I therefore recommend that this Government should

become responsible for the boy's clothing and pay the College charge of $15 per mens em for his board, lodging and education until he is 17 years old. Subject to your approval I am making provision in the
